Martina is our friend and neighbour, and the architect who redesigned our house. She lived through every challenge of that project with us: my moods, and coordinating what felt like a hundred people. The result is far better than anything I imagined, and so much better than where we started.
She has real talent and an eye for detail, and I’m sure her career will go a long way. I bothered her with plans for my workshop too, and promised her my first knife. My wife came first, of course, and I wanted some practice before gifting something I could be proud of.
She likes a gyuto, and sent me a picture of a knife with a wood and blue resin handle. That is what I’m going to try.
