The first knife I finished went to Diana, my wife. When I said I wanted to learn to make knives, she gave me half of our garage for the workshop.
She has never once asked why I do it, or why I spend money on something like this. She just let me start. This knife is my thank-you.
It is a honesuki, the Japanese boning knife, in N690Co stainless hardened to 60–61 HRC and mirror polished. A brass bolster leads into the handle: green stabilised poplar burl at the front and paua abalone at the back, held with three brass pins. The shell changes colour every time you turn it.
